3910 injector pump

Hello. 6 months ago a friend called me about a leaking injector pump and I told him it needed to come off for rebuild and he needed to get a service manual and read the procedure. He text today and say he had the pump off, I asked about timing and he answered OH SH#T. Pump wasn t timed. Where do we go from here, I think the pump will come back timed and we can remove valve cover to get motor to TDC. I told him to get a manual, but it probably doesn t cover this situation. Any advice is appreciated.

If its the CAV DPA rotary pump just align the pump flange line
with the 0 on the gear case, no need to remove the cover.

According to the parts site, the 3910 used the CAV rotary pump. There is a dowel pin on the front of the pump where it mates to the driven gear, and there is only one way to reinstall it with the dowel on the pump inserted into the hole in the gear. Once it is mounted, as Dieseltech said, align the mark on the pump flange with the zero line on the case. There's no real way to get that pump out of time.

Thanks guys, appreciate your help. Yes it s CAV (rotary) I should have stated that. My experience stops with the Simms pump. This is good news. As many have stated before, get a manual.

I have an '88 3910 just now rolling through 1000 hours. It has the CAV pump. I also have a '65 3000 and it too has a CAV pump and
is timed identical to the 3910. When installing, before tightening the 3 mounting bolts, line up the scribe lines on the pump flange
and block.

The CAV is more sensitive to moisture and has 2 fuel filters in a bracket but doesn't have an oil sump like you have to remember to
keep filled with the Simms.
