3930 Shuttle Shift

Can anyone tell me if the shuttle shift on the 3930 can be operated without using the clutch? Thanx in advance

Absolutely, positively, certainly, MOST DEFINITELY NOT.
Those transmissions are manually syncronized. The syncro's cost in the neighbourhood of 2500 each and it doesn't take a whole lot of pop a ring in one. Make sure it's fully declutched when you shift ANY lever on those transmissions. They do shift on the go, including the reverser to an extent... just make sure it's not under power. You also make a point of keeping the clutch correctly adjusted and the linkages tight. There's not a wide margin of error on that particular clutch setup... if the free travel gets a bit excessive then it doesn't fully disengage with the pedal at the footboard... and then someday it'll start grinding and snapping when you go to shift.
I've put 3 third/fourth gear syncro's in my '91 8x8... and it's a solid 3 days labor by the time you strip a loader frame off, get the transmission on the floor, rebuild/reshim it and put it all back together.
