I bought this 41 9n and the 3pt isn"t working. Check the oil at the hyd dip stick and the oil is very clear and as thick as honey. Do you suppose the previous owner might of put the wrong lube in the rear end. When I engage the pto and use the draft I get very little movement from the draft control spring area.. This is my frist tractor and I really fascinated already. Just rec"d my FO-4 manual today in the mail..Thanks

With the engine running & the PTO engaged & the clutch out, the lift arms should go down when you move the touch control lever down & up when you put it up. Does it do that or not? The draft control spring shouldn't be moving at all. The top link attaches to the end of the draft control spring. The only time that spring comes into play is when your plow hits hard ground; that will compress the spring & cause the internal linkage to lift the plow.

Remove the left side inspecion plate from the lift housing and reach inside under the oil where the two lift control rods go and see if the control valve T thingy is connected to the lift control rods. If not you will have to spread the two arms and re-attach the control rods to the control valve T thingy.

I will try that later once I'm home. Iread some where that the 9n's have issues with the control arm coming detached. thanks

One step after you get the side cover off & before you check to see if the control rod is connected as Zane suggested......move the touch control lever & see if the control rod moves. If it doesn't, you could have a bad friction disc or loose tension nut.

I don"t know if you have this port.Try taking out the bolt with pto engaged, push the lift control lever downward. Then go to the lift arms and push down on them.Oil will come out of the port and hopefully your lift arms will drop.Check colour of oil,it may be brown indicating the pump may need a clean out.
I had the same problem, oil looked clean on dipstick but internals were full of sludge.Happily though after thorough clean my lift has not given any trouble(yet).Picture will explain things.
Good Luck

Thanks George I will give that a try also...I will follow up hopefully soon.. The weather needs to break just a little here in MI so I can park the stang outside and bring the olde 9 in..

Hi George well I dropped the plug engaged the PTO but no need to lower three point because the draw bar was already on the ground. There was some dark sludge in there that made its way out..but still no action I can feel something when I lift the 3pt by hand though. I guess I might need to first check the control arm to make sure it hasn't come off the control valve...Then drop the pump. What can I say I a rookie at this..

Yep that sounds familiar.Dumping the old oil is the next step and a good clean out.Certainly check the control valve. If you have high tinker tolerance you could remove the top cover,it let's you see better what is going on inside.Just remember to remove the control fork from the control valve(t-thingy as zane described)Failure to do this will damage the t-thingy and you won't be able to remove the cover.
It may help having somebody there to lift the cover with you ,it's fairly heavy!!
Just holler if there are any issues, the board has a wealth of experience on it and the guy's are happy to oblige.

You say your tranny oil is thick like cold molasses.I would start there.Drain all 3 plugs, and with only the sump [pump]drain off puor 4-5 gals of deisel through 4-5 times, then refill with hydraulic oil to ford m-134c specs---lha

Thanks I was wondering if you could put something in there to help break that oil like molasses down and drain it..

Thank you again for all your advise.. I was out there playing around and was chased back in from the cold..But it won't be long and I will have it broken down..And you are right about the wealth of knowledge it's great..John
