4 blade fans for 9N

I have two four blade pusher fans and they both appear to be for 9N's. However one has a mounting hub that is 1-15/16" from the fan surface to the mounting surface that mates with the water pump. The second has a hub dimension that is 2-3/4" from fan surface to the water pump mounting surface. My 1939 9N 5913 has the longer hub as does my 8N with the 6 blade fan. So far I have not removed all the paint from either one and don't know if there is a part number anywhere. The long hub one has been cleaned and primed sometime, the short hub came off 9N s/n approx 3000 and has grey paint.

Anyone know which is correct for my early s/n 292 tractor?

just start the tractor. it makes it hard to count the blades.

Good morning Steve, My #147, #388, #546 all have the small hub. The fan sits a little bit further bad from the radiator. It might have to do with flow to the air tube for the air cleaner. Once the tube was disconnected I believe they moved the fan closer to the radiator with the longer hub. Three other later ‘39’s I have all have longer hubs

Thanks Kirk, I suspected the smaller hub was used on the earliest tractors, but could not think why. Your answer makes sense-I'm not using the tube, but I will use the shorter hub. So many interesting features on this tractor that apparently were modified pretty quickly. I had a 39 that I used as a parts tractor with an 8N engine, but everything else appeared original and the transmission number was close to #3000, still the front axle support was different than my #292, the front axle was lighter, just a number of things changed in a short time during the first year of production.

Hi Mr. Dabrowski,

The info you posted many years back about new oil pump gears being too short to prime, saved me from installing the set I got from Atlantic that were too short. Recently, The Old Hokie helped me remember it was your efforts that first alerted folks.
Thank you very much, and good luck on your resteration!

Yes changes in ‘39 were fast and furious without marking down serial numbers when changes were made. If you need to compare notes on the early ‘39’s just give me a shout, my email is open
