4- weight gov, question

Did ih make a 4-weight gov. for a m farmall? also is their any way to tell if you have a m&w by part numbers stamped into the housing or internal parts. im not sure what to look for.

Now this is something I know a little about. IH did not make a 4 weight governor. M&W did and the replacement had the M&W logo molded into the throttle shaft housing. Tractor supply sold one that was a Thompson Rock-It governor. Many think it was better than an M&W and I agree. An M&W usually sells for $300-$325 on auction but I saw a Rock-It sell for $605 last winter.

so did m&w use their own housings or did they use ih housings?

Both used the IH housing. Both kits had all new "guts" and throttle shaft housings. My Dad has a 1975 tractor supply catalog and the sold the Rock-It for $40 back then.

I recently bought a C-281 engine that unkowingly had a Thompson Rock-It on it. When I got it home and removed the cover on the governor my five year old son learned a new "word". "Sweeeet!"
