I'm wondering how difficult it is to rebuild. I'm in E. Central MO and have no idea who to even look for if I wanted to farm it out. I'm fairly competent mechanically, most of the time, but don't want to get in too deep. Any advice is appreciated

I've been watching some videos on line about rebuilding starters and generators since its hard to find people around here that do that. They have been pretty good about describing what to do and how to do it. Just google for them to find them. I know parts are advertised for delco starters and generators. I don't know about others.

If the segments are coming apart, it is only repairable if it is a very rare starter. If it is deeply grooved, probably needs replaced as well. If just cleaned up, watch some Youtube. Jim

I check ohms and it is not open looked at bushings, brushes. wiring to brushes is sketchy looking and then this groove. put back together and hit it with Battery in vice and wire to 2 brushes started smoking. The one that runs from magnet leads? maybe they were grounding to case? I know I can get one for 200 or less but would really like to get a better understanding of what is happening.
