4000 charging problems

I posted the other day about my 4000 not charging after having the gen rebuilt and replacing everything else. Found out the voltage regulater went out and melted the gen. Had it rebuilt again with a new regulater, ran it for a few minutes and shut it off. The gen and regulater are so hot u cant touch them... What am I missing??

you don't mention 3 or 4 cyl, and that makes the difference in a ford or a lucas genny and vreg.. however.. make sure you hav ethem wires as B circuit and they are not accidentally full fielded...

what does a volt meter tell you when running?

I said voltmeter for a reason... none of them came OE with volt meters.. though 00 series did have an ammeter.

that's whay I asked what a voltmeter told you when it was running... meaning you would use an external one...

( Yes.. that means you will need to get your VOM out of your tool box and hook it up across the battery to help diagnose this issue ).

Sounds like the current has no place to go. Check all of your wiring carefully, especially the regulator to battery terminals for loose connections and/or high resistance.
