4000 industrail shift pattern

ok this is going to sound dumb but i got an 63 4000 industrial with a rev sherman transmission and a four spped trans but for the life of me i cant seem to get it down low enough I think the shift pattern is 1st to the right and up but it still seems way to high.any one ever see this set up and if so help

Up and to the right is 1st.
Down and right is 3rd.
Up and to the far left is reverse.
Up and in the middle is 4th
Down from there is 2nd.

They positions are stamped on the shift cover. May be under a layer of crud?

The normal 4 speed does have a pretty high 1st gear. I have a HD industrial with a combo sherman and run it in low range 95% of the time.

well i would have never figured that out yeah the pattern is proubly under a couple layers of paint. my sherman is only forward and rev no low

John and I have the same tractor. Mine never comes out of low range either. Fourth gear is almost too fast in the field. On mine, someone before me put a different knob on the shifter and it was wrong. I made a new knob and put the correct shift pattern on it

You are exactly correct, especially with that big hoe bouncing around back there! Any speed over a brisk perambulation is contraindicated.

With Webster's help, "Any speed over a brisk [to travel over esp. by foot] is [not advisable].

Great vocabulary JB, I feel smarter just reading your post. :D :D
