4010 syncro trans

2nd 5th and 2nd reverse is out on my 4010... No adjustments will make it work.... Is it the top shaft, bottom shaft (I've been told both ways)?? Will I have to tear it completly apart??
 
It sounds like bottom shaft problems, could be a worn or broken snap ring, or a dubbed off gear collar, it will need to be torn "completely" down,final drives ,differential,split in front of the dash,top shaft removed, then the bottom shaft,,big job....
 
If he's REALLY lucky the problem COULD be a broken fork. REALLY REALLY lucky, perhaps?
 
I charge $1600-$1800 for this, it is a big job,,but the "while your in there" stuff can drive the parts bill through the roof,,like top shaft re-build, transmission pump re-placement,brakes,,these things are pricey, but don't change the labor because your already in there..One hidden cause for your problem can be a worn snap ring groove on the bottom shaft, if it's worn bad you will need a diferent ring&pinion, which would come from a salvage yard..
 
comming up with a cost be a little hard. but you could pull the deck and the top cover off and tell if its the top shaft or bottom shaft if you have a dealer cloes by, cost of a service call might be a good investment just to find out if you cant tell after you remove the deck. what out a lot cost. not sure what part of west tn your in i located west ky north hopkinsville. e-mail bbrown56 at hotmail.com
