4020 axle question

I have a 4020 synchro, can I use a power shift axle housing off of a 4020 as a replacement? And if so, why when I am looking for a replacement does it specify powershift?

4010 axle diameter is smaller, so its housing is different than your 4020. Synchro - power shift housings would be the same. Yes, you could use a power shift housing. I would go by the axle housings casting number. Casting number is on the outside of the axle housing. Raised numbers and letters. Get an axle housing with the same casting number and all inside parts should fit.

Jim I disagree that 4010 & 4020 rear axles are different diameters due to those tractors utilizing same rear wheel wedges. A4384R & R32224 Inner seal part # AA5122R is identical also.

Weren't the new replacement 4010 axle housings different after the "problem" was found? Was it a bigger axle or improved axle housing? A lot of them never had a problem and were never changed. Wasn't it the 4430, smaller axle early, bigger late. Been too many years and too many surgeries, I like to say, "I slept since then"....James

You're correct early 4010 had smaller rear axles. What I remember about 4430 was the planetaries were upgraded after serial # 040770
