4020 Clutch

Bought a 64 4020 and the clutch has an issue, when you go to let out of the clutch and you get towards the top of the pedal and the clutch grabs the tractor jumps, like you just dumped the clutch. doesn"t matter how slow you relase the clutch it will do it in every gear. I have adjusted the clutch pedal free play but didnt know if there was any other adjustments to do or just have to replace the clutch?

You can adjust the pressure-plate fingers individualy, from underneath for the engine and PTO clutch- assuming you've got a Syncrhorange trans.

Your discripion sounds like your tractor may have a heavy duty button clutch in it. The clutch disk is harder than the metal in the flywheel and presure plate so those surfaces wear and it gets grabby.

I would split it and lay it on the bench, if it is a button clutch the fly wheel is most likely going to need turned, and "don't" put a button(heavy duty) back in, they are jumpy when new, and get worse from there. If the springs look old I would change them out,,if the whole pressure plate looks worn, fingers and all, I would order a new assembly from Heartland clutch, they are at least a 1/3 cheaper than Deere and "good" stuff...
