4020 in the woods

I am looking for a tractor to work my woodlot (60 acres) plus some mowing and snow plowing. I have an oliver 1365 with a farmi winch now and wanted something a little bigger. I am looking at a 4020 with 4 wheel drive. Is this going to be to clumsy in the woods? also the fellow is asking $7500 for it, is this reasonable? suppose to be in good working condition with a M&W turbo plus extra parts for the fwd setup.

Please post photos of the tractor. Four wheel drive was not an option on the 4020, although hydraulic front wheel assist was. There were aftermarket companies that made FWD kits for these tractors, though. Sounds interesting.

I believe this is the hyd front wheel assist. can you tell me more about this? I don't have a pic but I saw one and it had traction tires on the front and I assumed.

If that is one of the rare factory assist front end tractors then buy it up quick before they raise the price up to 20-30 thousand you can then make enough money to buy something better for the woods like a skidder and have money left over for a tractor too.

i don't know anything about the front end mechanics, but ill tell you what, that 4020 will plow through anything with that hfwd. get yourself a 158 loader and 7 foot bucket, and you've got a boss hogg.

I don't think you can go wrong paying $7500 for a decent running JD 4020 anywhere in the country. I think the other guys are right about cleaning it up and selling or trading it for something more maneuverable in the woods. You would really like a skidder unless you need a big tractor for something else.

I do a lot of fire wood as well and I palletize. I have a 3 pt fork lift for handleing the fire wood. plus I mow 5 acres with a flail mower so I need a pto and 3 pt hitch. I have been using a farmi winch made for logging on the 3 pt and it works great. I don't really want to get into a dedicated machine. I need a little more versatility.
