I am working on an early JD 4020 LP. Just before this problem, tractor received new 12v battery, spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and alternator. It has an electronic ignition so I didn't install the points & condenser. I also cleaned the oil bath air filter and put in new Mystik 30 weight oil. The tractor ran a while and then didn't want to start. After check numerous things, I had the idea that the oil in the air breather was too thick. I took the pan off and it started right up. I then put in new non detergent 10 weight and all was good for a few hours. Then, it died and that was it. It won't turn over, won't click won't do anything. Battery is hot, starter is getting current, ignition switch and starter button is hot, lights work, propane cutoff clicks but again, will not even engage or click the starter. I disconnected the main harnesses leading to the ignition, starter and light switches and cleaned them. Reassembled them and nothing. I will remove the starter tomorrow and check it independently. I don't think a bad starter would just make a tractor die would it? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
