A friend of mine has a turbo kit for a 4020. The turbo is almost new hardly used we"re just wondering what it"s worth on average. Everything is here and in great shape.

Make sure it is the later model with the 2 piece manifold that lets the exhaust go out the original hole in the hood.Cant go wrong at a 1000 if complete and good. And if he has the M&W oil pan those bring a premium price also.

I would sell it to Richard.I have sold many and usually they bring around $500 If they have the pan ,shroud and Pyrometer they will bring the $1200 or more.I bought a few new ones in the late 60s early 70s and they were $450 installed. The 20 quart pan was around $300.Actually they will make decent power but they have less than 10# boost. Most people wont buy a tractor with a turbo but turbos sell right away by themselves.I like the sound of a turbocharged motor. They were ahead of JD but in 69 the first JD turbos came and the IH 1206 was the first row crop in 1965.

Not to nit-pick, but I think the first turbo row crop would have been the Allis D19- in about 1961. Isn't it amazing how the mind can remember this useless trivia, and not remember the important stuff?

You are correct Connie I actually knew that just thinking of more muscle type tractors. Now the JD 50H.P.or less utility tractors are turbocharged. The problem with after market things are the tractors are engineered for a certain H.P.+ and add another 30H.P. with wrong operator and things happen.

The 69/72 4020s don't require the 20qt.pan but the 64/68 only held 8 qt.so it would be a good idea.A poor operator runs things for days and good operators run them for years with little problems.I had a turboed 69 4020 with 10K hours with 0 problems .I would be interested in your setup.
