4020 park cable

i have a late 1965 4020 power shift. S/N 103111. park pawl cable rusted tight. replaced cable and installed new bushings on shift arms under dash. cable was free before install, but a little stiff after install. cable will only route one way. after install will not come out of park with shift lever, i have to force shift levers down by hand. I looked at the linkage and can not tell what is supposed to force cable out of park. the big spring under dash seems to do nothing except keep the arms together. my john deere maintance manual is no help. adjusted per manual.

The spring on the arms under dash is to pull tractor into park if the Par pawl pawl teeth do not align with Park gear. Has nothing
to do with getting it out of Park. Your problem is wear on the ear / tab on control lever that contacts the ear / tab of arm. When
lever is in Neutral these tabs are / Should be aligned and when lever is pushed ahead / forward lever forces arm down pushing
cable down to release the Park pawl from gear. I leu of buying these parts, I build them up with wire welder and file them back to
new shape and reassemble make sure all side to side play is shimmed out of arms and lever on common pivot shaft. This will help the
alignment with lever and arm tabs. You will see what I am talking apart when you take it apart and look at the wear on these two
pieces. DW
