4020 power steering

Was mowing a new place the other day 3rd gear hit a durn OLD well house Foundation (18inches hi) in the tall grass , Impact!. OIL SPRAYED EVERYWHERE ( when all settled , it LOoKED like a frozen burst pipe blister _) Blowed one of the Power stering lines and slammed the wheels a Hard Right ,,. All seems OK , but cannot tell for sure til the line is replaced . And SINCE it is in a gawdforsaken place that cant be seen of felt , much less put a wrench on . AND . SINCE THE steering was leaking ( Only enuf to attract dirt and leave a small spot every time it sits a dAY ) above the tie rod steering PAWL . Son and i skinned That Deere down and pulled out the P/steering unit So we could get to the line ,, GIVEN THE IMPACT AND THE AGE ,... QUESTION /???,... Is it Wise to do an entire SEAL Overhaul on the ps unit , or just repair that O -RING above the Pawl.. HOW expensive ??? , and technical or Elementary is the job , BTWay The heck of it is , i knew there was a foundatiom was out there someplace and had my ft over the clutch , And stomped it immeditely , WHEN I FOUND IT ,,, but was TOO LATE . Thanx guys for your advice .., jh

Hopefully the line took all the impact out of the collision, I have seen this kind of thing blow the steer valve apart and also seen it blow the steer motor apart. Since you have it out I would re-seal the motor, it's not a bad job and even easeyer since the motor is on the bench take care in timeing the pinion, and it has a front and rear to it, look the timeing marks over "before" you tear it down, I measure the pistons from the snap ring grooves when it's centered to help line it up when you go back together, the parts needed are: 1 R 34748 seal $28,,1 AR 52016 kit $59.

When my tractor idles, the front wheels slowly turn on there own all the way to the left. Is this caused by the seals in the ps motor leaking by?

It can be, but most likely it's the operating valve. If you could plumb a gauge into the line going to the motor (behind the right side screen) it would sort it out for you.
