4020 prices

Has 4020 prices gone up ? I seen a decent looking 1968 4020 diesel syncro shift sell for $12000 They said it was a one owner all original but it had been repainted. It was at a farm auction .

I would say they have gone up They have become collector tractors and 4440 s will be next.

Tires and condition can make 3/5K or more difference.I am seeing more people that are looking for a special tractor especially to use, the 4020 is still one of the handiest auger and yard tractors available.Hard to beleive the first 4020 were introduced 49years ago.I was around 20 when I bought my first new tractor which was a 65 1206[$6500] and got a 66 4020[$6700] the next year, so they are my favorites kind of like my wife of 47yrs.Never had a 2cyl.and they are not as popular as they were as the enthusiasts that collected them are getting older.Most people buy what they like if even if it is not rare[over 185,000 4020s]or have memories from days gone by.I have a call most every day looking for an original 72 4020 and most that I know of are not for sale.Inflation and high grain prices have had a big influence on tractors but not like land prices up over 15% per year.

just like stated earlier the tires and hydraulic remotes are a big thing. i just went to auction where two diesels with loaders on them sold and the one with 2 remotes and good tires went for 12 and the other one with one remote and worn tires went for 8000.

Over rated and over priced like the 330 two cylinders.
4230, 4430, 4240& 4440 are a better value for a tractor to use.

i have to say that the 30 series tractors are good. but nothing beats a 20 open cab. the versatility of the 4020 i think is outmatched. with a loader for sure. i have 2 4020s with loaders one diesel and one lp. now a days just used for loading hay and feeding
but they can be used for so much more. we baled, swathed plowed sowed and alot of other things with these before. the best thing i like is just not having a cab to look through all the time when loading

Good low hour ones are hard to find and people pay. You can find beat ones cheap and sink a pile of money in them. I am a young collector and didn't grow up in the 2-Banger area but that is our main collection. I definitely can see a swing where the older guys are starting to make prices rise on the New Gens... However people can still say what they want 4020 was the best all around tractor ever made by Deere.. I also agree with the statement that the 4440's and such will be the next swing in collecting...

way too high priced, people are crazy to pay that kind of cash for an over rated tractor. For a loader put your money into one with front wheel assist.

The snow, wind and rain here drops interest in open tractors and puts a premium on cab equipped tractors.

My nephew just paid $17,500 for a low houred 72 4020,and drove 600 miles to get it, one sold near me last year for $28,000,,I agree with B&D if you want a work tractor the 30'40 series are a better value by far.

30&40 series Waterloo tractors are much improved and you can buy a nice 4230/4430 for less than a nice 2520/4320.If I advertise a nice 4440 for 22K and a nice 71/72 4020 for 17K I will receive 5 calls on 4020 to 1 for 4440.I can think of over 100 4440s that are nice originals but less than 10 4020s.A 4000D P.S.at 35K a 4620 P.S at 20K were only too high to the contending bidders.Seems crazy but the feeling you get by driving something you have good memories from is priceless.

side console prices seem outrageous. 64-68 tractors seem priced right. A 4230/4430 can be bought for the same money as a 4020 and are more useable if wanting to use one everyday;if wanting to collect thats different.

Larry I heard that a low houred 4960 brought $160,000 at an action here in Ohio last weekend,,I have not verified it but heard it from 2 different sources. The friend of mine that bought that 4960 that was brand new setting in the weeds since 1992 is planning on putting it up for action, thinking he will get $200,000...it has 15 hours on it.

It was either 132 or 133,000

Round us in Manitoba Canada they have dropped pretty good. Most guys that want one have one, most of them round here have no 3pt so are use less and too big on an acreage for grass cutting.Most of the modern 13" grain augers round us have hyd legs on and they wont run them, so farmers are moving to the big newer series. a reasonable painted 4020 with cab and loader no 3pt sold local for $7500 ish last year near me.
Guy offered it to me for $13.000 on a trade for a Massey. I bid him 6 as I new what they dropped, and had to take the risk on getting out of it right. He told me I was a thief with a few other words in front offering less than half. Guess after 8 months at $13.000 he got the reality check.

Seems high for a pre-console but had one just like you are talking about sell here is KS last fall for 16K. One owner original.
I myself love them. Have a 69 and 72 powershift, a 72 4000 pwrshft and a 72 syncro. Each one has its own job. Never paid over $9500 for any of them BUT, I have the 4230 pwrshft on the feed wagon in the winter!!!
