I was cuting hay today with a 4020 and a 930 discbine with 1000 pto. I came down the hill and turned around to cut the back cut and just as i put it down I saw that it was slowing down and stoped. The lever was still forward so I pulled it back down and back forward every thing is hooked up under the dash. I changed to the 540 to see if that would work nope did not turn eather. The tractor was low on hyd. oil added to full and still not working, also the 3pt and steering both still work along with the rase and lower.

Synchro tranny BEFORE serial# 201,000, or 201,000 or after?

Or powershift, perhaps?

(3 TOTALLY different systems.)

Pto on a '72 4020 is hydraulically controlled. Take cover off under steering wheel and check that linkage is intact. The linkage has a history of loosening with use. Remove inspection cover under clutch housing and check to be sure end of pto clutch engagement fingers haven't worn down.

Not likely that this happened, but there is also a shear pin deep down inside.
Tractor needs to be split for access. 6 hours of work to replace a $2 part.

Remove the lower inspection cover (2 3/8 cap screws) "KEEP your hands out" and look ip in there while some one engages and dis-engauges the PTO, note what happens and tell us what you see, it could be the bearing locked up and burnt through the PTO fingers, I had one like that last week on a 4620, it could also be that the rivets in the PTO clutch hub worn thin and sheared, There is "NO" shear pin inside on this model, there are shear "points" but no pins. Be prepared to split it at the clutch housing, not a bad job to do....

Could you please furnish the part # for this mysterious shear pin? I think you have a 3010/4010 pto in mind not 4020.

Finished cutting hay with the 4520 tnen looked up into the inspection plate looks like the bolts or rivets pulled out from the plate that is in front of the clutch. no one around to move the handle to see how things move but I know what is wrong now. I have split these tractors before so no big thing just need to make some time to do it.
{Thanks for all the help!!!}
