The front axle has been reversed. I did that once for a tractor being shipped to Florida to work vegetable crops.

yes and the dude really believes its a utility i emailed him saying john deere neve built a 40 20 utility and he told me i needed to get my facts straight

the trator has a row crop operators platform yes front axle is turn around it makes for a smaller turning circle the reawheel casting 3020 with 4020 wedges

but to my knowledge there was now 4020 utility version from the factory am i right thank you larry

100% correct.

I should email this guy too.

In fact, we should all get on him for fraudulent advertising.

Before you get on your self-righteous high horses only to get knocked back off again, have you considered the man might actually have had something? Have any of you ever seen advertising for a 1971-1972 "3020" Utility? No, I'll be you haven't---but Deere made some, nevertheless. Evidently there was some experimentation made with 4020's, or some dealer had enough clout to get some special 4020's built, because this isn't the first 4020 with the 3020 RCU front axle and 26" wheels and tires that I've heard of. Maybe Deere built it, maybe a dealer built it, maybe somebody built it just for the heck of it but before you go screaming "fraud", I'd suggest you find yourself some proof first.

Be nice in whatever you do. He may have written his ad in what he thought was all honesty. Who knows? He may know more than we do. We dont know how much research he has done?

A little two-cylinder club research might answer some questions.

It's a fake. Ask him for a FULL serial number. My guess is that you will not get it. And is it just a coincidence that it's a GAS/POWERSHIFT? Mike

I know a man in Indiana who has a 4000 Tractor that's built just like this 4020. Ever hear of the low-profile 4000? Even if you had the full serial number, it wouldn't tell you anything. How about the low-profile 3020's that were built in 1971-72. These machines exist, but there was no advertising for them, and the serial number wouldn't tell you anything. What I'm saying is don't be so sure of anything, and don't say "Deere never built a...." Because you're likely to be proved wrong.

Serial number = T211P173344R

The seller didn't answer any other questions about the unit. Does anyone have a production record to look this up? It appears to be a '67, right?

The thing that gets me is the "shorty" muffler and air stack which looks different than their row crop counterparts. Also, will 3020 utility rear wheels even fit on a larger 4020 axle? Someone mentioned using 4020 wedges. Can you elaborate? Also, to be correct it would have to have the shorter three point arms, right? I can't tell enough from his small, blurry photos to tell too much. Incidentally, why anyone takes the effort to sell something worth thousands of dollars on Ebay but then takes the photos with a shoebox, pinhole camera like I used to make in grade school (or so it appears) totally baffles me. Oh, and make sure half of the photos are duplicates. Geez.

I see the seller has several other NG tractors... including some utilities (or utility based industrials). So he, presumably, has access to the kind of parts needed to make such a conversion on his own.

Regardless or whether it's a factory or dealer-built unit, it is a very cool tractor. I'd love to have something like that.

There you go. Really made yourself look good giving the first negative comment towards someone you REALLY DON'T KNOW.

Before you get yourself into a self-righteous judgemental fix, RETHINK your words, mr. 4020LP.

My first comment is a smart-arse comment. Well, whoop-te-do. You've done it before, no doubt.

If I'm wrong, my apologies. However, your first comment sounded to me like you were serious, as you did not believe such a creature existed, and the guy trying to sell it should be hounded from our midst. You'll have to excuse me. I've been around long enough to hear enough people say with some authority that "Deere didn't build any of those", only to be proved wrong. Simply put, you don't know for sure. Neither do I. Perhaps neither does the seller. Deere built a numnber of VERY limited run machines on which no literature was ever printed. The serial number would have told you nothing. My intention was not to be insulting but educational---my apologies, no offense intended.

I was actually admitting to my smart comment. I really did make that comment as a smart comment, I know I shouldn't have done it, it's stupid.

I should be the one apologizing for the seemingly rude comment(s).

This really hasn't been my week. Hope your week was better.

And I'll try not to infer on things that I don't know about. (I don't know that there are 4020 utilities)

Such a creature would be interesting to have.

No harm, no foul. We have all typed something, hit the "enter" key, and then wished we hadn't. Been guilty of it myself more times than I can count, and no doubt will do it again. Not to worry, I'm not gonna sweat stuff like this, it's human nature. Ya know what would be interesting? A 4020 Row-Crop Utility with an LP-Gas engine and P/S transmission!

My comments came across as being blunt and for that I apologize. I agree with everything you said. In the Deere world, there are several instances of tractors and machinery that "were never built". This being said, what I should have said is that in order for this tractor to be anything more than something that has been put together by someone (which could be done easily by using off the shelf parts) there has to be some evidence that this was not the case. In other words, either some form of docmentation or other likely anectodal evidence to prove the history of this (or any other) tractor. To me, what makes it suspect is the fact that is has new paint (which would cover up the disparencies of a "put together" tractor) and the fact that it is a gas/powershift tractor, this being the most rare combination (usually) in New Generation tractors, which probably has not gone unnoticed by someone that might be considering making one of these types of tractors. With all the high-dollar tractors that have been sold and the publicity that has surrounded them, I believe a buyer should be very careful on these types of things. Is the tractor mentioned unusual? Yes. Is it a conversation piece? Yes, without a doubt. Is it rare? This is when things become dicey. Without some form of documentation by default the tractor becomes just an unusual tractor. The real value comes from some history. I did not make this rule but it is as I see it. I apologize once again if I appeared rude. Mike

I'll get right on building one up ! LOL

With the big dollars comes the fraud ! Happened to gun collectors, car collectors and now tractors.
