4030 john deere info

I bought a 4030 John Deere last spring. It runs alright. Its Quad Range. Looking at the Nebraska Tractor Test it Shows 67 drawbar HP and 80 PTO HP. Is this so? I figured it to be stronger. Anyone actually ever done a Dyno to compare. I am new to John Deere 30 series. Seems like it drinks fuel pretty hard at 2000 RPM. Probably about 40 percent more compared to the Case Tractors of the Same era.

I will say the sound guard cab and the quad range transmission are great. All and all its a pretty fair tractor.

Have you put the tractor on a dyno and operated at a known HP for a known period or time and know the exact amount of fuel used ?
Or are you measuring via the seat of your pants ? Or is this just a slam from a Deere hater ?
Here is your 40%

Yes, they are about 80 hp from the factory on the pto. While b&d may be a bit blunt
in his reply, a 10 percent variation in fuel consumption across many different
models of diesel tractors is more realistic, all else being equal, and tested under
controlled conditions.

They are a pretty good tractor, nonetheless, the 329 engine did not see a lot of
applications as did the 404, but a decent engine for the most part.

Thanks for the reply!
This post was in no means to bash John Deere or the 4030. John Deere has been and always will be the king in agriculture and sales in my eyes hands down. The post was more to ask the JD experts the questions based upon personal usage.

From experience though, I have run the 870, 970, 1070, 1175.
I have done identical jobs with my 4030 that I did with the 870.
Granted the fuel tank is 35 gal vs 48. I have noticed a lot greater fuel consumption pulling a fairly new Rowse double 9 mower in identical conditions at same speeds and RPMs. Realistically you only need say 55 pto HP to run it. However you should be at higher RPM range. So, no real chore for either tractor.

Thanks again for the replys---

All the older Deere with the closed center hydraulic system are always very bad on fuel at high rpm and no load. Now that most of them are chore tractors, the fuel comsumption issue at middle loads is more if an issue.

You can always try to run your mower at 1300 engine rpm with the 1000 pto option.

Running them at lower rpm if extra rpm is not needed is a must on those tractor.

My '91 4255 with closed center hyds uses 3.2 gallons per hr pulling my JD 467 rd baler making 66'' diameter bales. I don't consider that bad on fuel for a 120+ pto HP tractor.

That does not sound too bad, but is twice as a Deutz 100-06 doing same job.
