4030 possible stuck engine

This 4030 has been sitting for a few years
and I guess the owners are trying to get it
started and put a new 1k CCA battery on it
and the starter would just thud and not
turn engine over. No coolant was seen in
radiator either. Can this engine loose a
gasket besides the obvious head gasket or
seal and then the coolant get into the
cylinders or crankcase? Thanks guys. This
is my grandparents and would like to get it
going again.

If you are thinking a hydraulic lock (water on top of piston)
you might try rolling engine backwards. Probably seized bearings
or stuck piston.

If it leaked into the crankcase, it should flow out first when you pull the drain plug from the pan.

Can you pop the starter off and see if it spins freely from the switch? The solenoid may be corroded enough to keep it from turning over.

Is there another tractor to pull it slowly to see if it is free?

From what I've been told is that they tried rolling engine over with a tool of some sort up front by the hydraulic pump both directions and nothing. I bet its a seized piston or full of coolant. I hope not tho. But, since it was my Great Grandfathers tractor and has been in the family since new I'd like to ge able to get it running. I'm going to go check it out tomorrow myself. Thanks guys....

If you suspect coolant on top of piston pull injectors and see if you can roll it over with tool. Note which cylinder is pushing out coolant / water? If still stuck engine will need to come apart. DW

Can't pull tractors with Perma clutch no oil pressure to engage clutch.

If somebody was over dosing that Dubuque engine . There could be broken pieces inside .

Couldn't the 4030 engine possibly be built in Saran or Mannheim & not Dubuque?

Could be either theoretically . Should be info on the serial number plate .
Considering that Quad Cities close to each other and Mannheim/Saran is across the Atlantic . Odds are the engine is Dubuque during the 30 series . After mid 40 series production, yes, increased odds of it being a Saran.
Would be interesting to know .

I remember model 2030's that were built for sales in N America that originally were originally built in Dubuque that some later models were built in Mannheim & had a "L" at the end of serial number

Morning Jim, If I recall its a 75. Dad had
pulled the injectors the other day and got
it to roll over quarter turn either
direction then it would stop hard. Thinking
a stuck valve. It did get water into the
cylinders from a faulty muffler weld job
several years ago. Darn it !!!

Sounds as if R&R of liners/pistons is on the horizon for this 4030.
