can someone tell me does the trans and rearend use the same oil like all together and how much does it hold can't find it in my book thanks

utf in the trans, hyds and diffy is fine.

they are not common sump mind you.. but utf meeting m2c134 spec is fine. ( walmart.. tsc.. etc.. )

3 different sumps. Originally the transmission and differential had what is now 80W-90 in them and the hydraulics had something akin to today's Universal Transmission/Hydraulic fluid in them. I still like to keep it this way.

As you can see there are differing opinions on that.

The 40401 did not have a 3 point lift or the hydraulic system to drive one, but it still had that separate sump between the transmission and the rear axle. Ford still filled that sump at the factory, even on the models that didn't have the 3 point hydraulic system, most likely to avoid rust from condensation, but it also would keep either of the other sumps from getting way low if one of the seals between them were to leak. Putting the same fluid in all 3 helps avoid cross contamination in the event of a leaky seal as well.

You could put gear oil in them all, either 80w90, which as Larry said, is closest to what the transmission and rear axle had from the factory, or 85w140 if you're going to work it a lot in hotter weather, or you could go with a UTF that says on the label that it meets or exceeds any of the Ford/New Holland M2C134 specifications (The original M2C134 spec, or the M2Ca34B, C or D specifications that each superseded the one before it).
