4050 JD loader plumbing

I have a JD 4050 MFWD with a 258 loader. The joystick is currently supplied by one of the service valves. I would like to free the valve up. Can I plumb directly to the loader hydraulics or add a power beyond valve? If I have to add a power beyond valve how difficult is it?

When I had a loader on my 4255 I teed into supply line on RH side and returned oil to sump. My loader operated just fine for handling rd bales. Also a PBY block is available that goes between scv & rockshaft housing

The power beyond supply is just bolted between one of your SCV valves and the main housing. I DO NOT like them plumbed that way as the loaders are slower because the power beyond ports are small. I supply mine by tying into the supply line that goes up to the rockshaft and scv stack. O replace the straight fitting with a tee. I will try and post pictures tonight. I am on the shop computer right now and do not have the PICs in this computer.

The steel line coming off the pressure control valve (Bottom line) that goes up to supply the rockshaft and SCVs is taken off and replaced with a tee fitting and a rubber hose going up to supply the rockshaft and SCVs. You can bend the steel line and hook it back to the tee but I have found that the steel line then does not last as long as the "new" rubber hose does. This is your supply side.

You can return the oil several places. 1) Into the side of the SCV valve. 2) Drill the transmission filter cup and install a fitting there. (I usually do this just as habit from the 20 series days LOL) 3) Take the plug out that you access the rear end housing to adjust the draft control.

You can see in the last picture I just bolt the Joystick control valve/box to the right battery box. If you look you can see the supply line coming off the pressure control valve. You can also see the return line going up and over the transmission to the filter cup.

I like hooking the loader supply up this way as the loader is much faster than supplying it through a power beyond block. Also it cost less to do it this way.

Power beyond blocks are easy to install. A guy sells a kit on ebay for around $125. Just put one on my 4320 for a loader. Works good. Might be a touch on the slow side, but plenty fast enough for moving round bales, which is 90% of what it does.

JD Seller, I assume when you say you can plum the return into the side of the SCV that it is the same as the pressure side. Can a tee be used just like the other side.

NO!!! The plug (#1Top picture) in the side of the SCV valve is just a port open to the inside of the SCV valve housing. It just dumps the oil back into the sump. There is NO port on the SCV valve that will supply pressure oil. To do that you need to install the power beyond block (#4 second picture)


There are a few ways to supply and return the oil to run a separate loader valve on a JD waterloo built tractor. I have out lined one that gives you fast flow and better loader cycle times but requires some thinking to install. The posters talking about the power beyond block are telling you a way to do the same thing easier but will resulting slower loader speeds.

If you decide to go with the power beyond route email me I have several power beyond blocks. I would sell them. I remove them because I hate slow loaders.

On the pic of the tee fitting in the first pic. Does it matter if the tee is before or after that valve. My 4440 had a loader on it before I bought it but owner kept the loader. The steel line coming into that valve was replaced with a hose. Was going to put a tee in front of the valve. Just don’t want to mess anything up by plumbing into the wrong spot

Teeing into that line bypasses the pressure control valve & if the hose leading to FEL control valve fails/blows the tractor should very shortly loose hyd pressure to the steering & brakes. Installing the PBY block is much safer especially if driving tractor on a public road.

Loader operators tend to have a foot in the clutch waiting on the loader . I would rather save the clutch and have to feather the loader speed on occasion .
Yes to full sized T and line on the supply side .
The line returning to a ported filter cover or the return line near the filter are the best returns .
