41 B John Deere

I was wondering about how much increase in horsepower I might expect after I get done going thru the motor on my 1941 B? It is 4.5" +.125 over and is going to have high compression M & W style pistons in it.

If it has the dltx 34 carb, the original head, prob around 25hp. The later head will bolt up and has a smaller chamber, the 67 carb will flow better as well. The 25 horse may be more depending on your compression ratio, and if its tuned to the max. The oversize wont yield much gain like the compression. All this is assuming you have a gas style manifold on it.

It does have the DLTX 34 carb on it right now and it also has the gas intake. I'm thinking of putting roller rockers into it but not sure if I want to spend the extra money on a tractor that is going to spend most of its time on the farm with a couple of plow days and maybe a pull or two each year.

Except for the fact that your 1st gear is Faster than a Late Styled JD "B" in 2nd gear..
Puts you at a distinct disadvantage..unless you built for more power..

Ron.

There isn't much of a disadvantage for just working around the farm and plowing which is what it will be doing most of the time. It isn't going to be a tractor that is going to have $8-$10,000 stuck into it and only run it on a pulling track.

It does have a gas manifold on it currently but I am looking for a heisler manifold for it. I have a Johnson Cold manifold for an Unstyled B that I would trade for a Heisler for my Mid Series B.

No it isn't back together yet. I have been in the hospital for most of the winter and my shop isn't heated so I need to wait for warmer weather to work on my projects.

A heisler manifold wont yield power results vs cost. Roller rockers would help more for the cost. A cheaper alternative would be to cut the pushrod side of the rockers to shorten them and weld back together. Also on the head, match port the existing manifold to the head, using a new manifold gasket as a pattern. Remove the intake valves and smooth up the bowls some and also remove some material from the intake eyebrows to help with the shrouding of the intake valves.

you must not have read, I said I would trade my Johnson for a heisler. What part of cost is there in that?
