410 Massey combine hydrostat temp

What should the temperatures of the hydrostat out of a 410 Massey combine run? We've got one that the gauge has never worked on until it was fixed this winter and it easily pegs a 250 degree gauge even when it's not working hard.

hyd oil will boil @ 260 deg, First get a heat gun and make sure the gauge is correct. next stick some gauges in it to isolate the problem. the bottom line is it will probely need rebuilt. if your not familliar with it get a pro to do it. if you try it yourself the most important thing to remember is to keep it clean. the average age of a hydrostat is about 4000 hrs.

I've wondered if the gauge was working right. It's an electronic one that takes its reading out of the motor. The cooler never gets all that hot, you can usually put your hand on it, but it's a good ways away from the motor.
This hydrostat is around 10 years old and probably has maybe around 1000 hours on it. The previous one blew a gasket and we replaced the whole unit.

take the filter off and cut it open , thjis will tell you allot.look for metal, brass or alum, did you check your charge pressure and drive pressure yet?
