4100 Injector Pump Gear Timing

I put the cam and cam drive gears on my engine and I think I've gotten the timing right. I've spun the engine a number of times to check for binding and now it's as if I never timed it. I don't think anyone sneaked in and rearranged the gears as a joke, but the marks never line up at TDC now. I'm assuming it is due to all 3 gears having different numbers of teeth, is that right? If so, if I just line up the marks on the injector pump gear (not installed with the others) with the mark on the cam drive gear will the timing be right? Or do I need to start over and put all 4 gears on at once?

Ifyou rotate crank enough times they will once again line up....need 94 rotations!

ish I could answer that for you, but I do no know and a "probably" type answer is like no answer. Bern, Destroked, or someone will give you a good answer.

That is known as a "hunting gearset", and yes, it happened because of the odd number of teeth. If the idler gear had the same number of teeth as the cam gear, it never would have happened.

I believe it takes 30-some revolutions to come back to where you want it. The easiest thing to do would be to simply unbolt the idler gear and line everything back up. And yes, you'll need to have all the marks lined up to properly install the injection pump drive gear.
