411B steering ??'s

How much trouble is it to change a narrow front to a wide font on a 411b, assuming I can locate one. My steering box is wore slop out and it is rough with the narrow front anyway.

While I'm not 100%positive, I'd wager a dollar to ninety cents that the front off a 200/211/300/311b/430's would fit your tractor with minimal problems. The round adjustable front on my VAC-14 looks like it would fit on my 311b, too.

Look up the CNH website and you can see the parts diagrams for the front end or steering parts. To change front from narrow to wide is a wet (the gear box is full of grease, if it has been greased) change. When you take the bottom part off you can then clean every thing and look for worn parts. The pins that engage the worm gear can be turned or replaced if there is wear.

Pixs are an early 310 has 2 pin lever, yours is set up the same, will have 3 pins lever.

Your lever pins are probably severely worn. One or both the end pins may be broken off. The mesh backlash adjustment screw for steering lever pins to worm gear is bottom left on the bolster.

Won't do any good to adjust severely worn pins and may break the lever if too tight, be careful. Best to pull the cover and check it out.
