41B rad. shutter adjustment knob

Howdy guys,
need some advice, pls.
Is there a special "trick" to attaching the shutter open/close knob on my B ?
Can't find any instructions in any of my books... it "should" be easy to figger out but I'm struggling. There was no shutter or actuating rod on the tractor when I disassembled it, so I've not seen what it should look like. Can someone talk me through the steps?
Does the end piece w/ gauges need to be fastened to the hood first and the rod threaded onto the knob from below? etc.

The parts book will show VERY good illustrations of this assembly.
The "B" service manual the good one I think it's # SM2004 ? will many times show good pictures of things as well.

My 41 B has electric lighting equipment, so the dash may be different from yours, depending on if you have starting / lighting equipment. But for mine...

The actuating rod can be threaded and secured to the adjustment knob, then inserted through the hole in the dash and the knob threaded into the dash. the other end of the rod will have a threaded bushing / collar and a lock nut that the arm on the inside of the hood attaches to. By moving the collar along the threads, you can get the shutters adjusted to open and close fully. Hope that helps.

ahhh, O Crap... seems I've attached the hood already when I should have assembled the whole rod first and made the connection at the rod breakpoint nearer the shutter. I guess I can see that...
I do have manuals, and the drawings are clear, but the assembly STEPS and the order are not specified. Your description helps, thank you.

You can get them on with the hood on and grille still off.

Dont panic, you can still get it in with the hood in place. In fact to attach at the adjusting point for the shutters, the hood has to be on. The rod will slide in from the dash end.

I never panic. My humidor and Kentucky bourbon are in the barn office, right by the workbench.
Some of my projects take a little longer though...
