420 C tracks

I have two and I believe they are both original tracks. They both measure 3" average from pad to bottom of link. Not sure about specs for new, but might be in the service manual.

Any info on height measurement of track links on 420C?
Nothing in the service manual I can find for rail height. I have some info from the old Crawler Heaven site that gives internal wear percentages and that didn't include rail height. Are you looking for height for a particular reason, like you are going to build them up?

I found also Jensales manual had no info on track wear. D2 caterpillar manual is very detailed... I think 3 and quarter inch from pad to wear surface and cat links are wore out... Would like to know when J D links are done... I don't think welding up is an option....pins will loosen? Going to go to J D dealer and look at actual J D service manual!

I have a copy of the JD service manual SM2019, it does not give any wear limits. The dealer might have some track info in a track inspection manual, if they have anything around that old. The chains may be "done" internally before rail height is gone. It used to be that pins and bushings were turned or changed (possibly more than once) before the rails were below the height limit.

I have attached an old wear limit document (pdf) I got years ago from the Crawler Heaven website (which no longer exists). This will give you the internal limits if you want to check those.

You do know you can't get new 420C chains and pads and replacement pins and bushings are very hard to find? The common fix is to convert to 350 undercarriage parts (tracks, sprockets, idlers, rolls, etc.), not an inexpensive project.
