420w pto

I have a 1957 420w with a two stage clutch. When I try to engage the pto, the lever moves back and forth but nothing happens, no noise or action. would it likely be the lever or the shaft and gears?

Pull the trans cover and have a look. Wouldn't be the 1st time a clutch was way out of adjustment, busted cluster gears etc.

Thanks buickanddeere, I was thinking pretty much the same thing. I feel better knowing somebody else thinks the same.

Make sure the shaft is moving and not just the lever.I've seen those roll pins come out that fasten the lever to the shaft.

I am with the others in that I think you have lost the lash up between the lever and the coupler on the shaft in the tranny. The two suggestions youhave now should sort that out for a start.

History? Did it ever work for you?

Its reaal easy to take the pto off the back and look and see if its turning or if the collar is stripped out or that pin sheared.I find that happend more than anything ,the collar stripped out,three bolts and your there
