4230 466 Swap

Good afternoon,
I have a 4230 quad that im in the process of putting a 7720 466 in with plans to keep the turbo. I know there is quite a few changes that need to be made but not sure what all just yet. Looking for a guide on what all needs to be modified. I have the combine engine pulled and in the shop and the tractor already split. Right off the bat it looks like ill need to swap oil pans, and it looks like possibly the upper water manifold? In my research it looks like by using a 4430 exhust manifold and a 4320 turbo outlet I can retain the factory hood without mods? What all am I missing? The 466 does have the correct bolt pattern to bolt in without modification. Thanks in advance!

Maybe check the oil pump pickup tube and screen maybe different, maybe use water pump from the 4230? And the block is drilled and tapped for the hyd pump mount? And check the number of threaded holes in the flywheel end of the crankshaft, some had 4 and others 6?

I do recall seeing something about changing the pickup tube. Looking at the water pump it does look like that will need to be swapped and it also appears that the water manifold will bolt to the combine block without issue. The crank pulley is identical on the combine side i just need to put the nubs for the hydraulic pump coupler onto the balancer. I read that some combine engines did not have provision for a cam driven tachometer but it appears that this one does which is great...

Dial up the transmission oil pressure . Install a three pinion differential if the two pinion unit fails . Install a pyrometer prior to the turbo and watch the coolant temperature.

One more little tidbit you might want to look at BEFORE you put the flywheel on and the clutch together. Look carefully at the end of the crankshaft on both engines. The tractor engine has a hex drive adapter in the crank to drive the transmission pump. The combine engine doesn't. Skipping that little fact can cause a little aggravation later when the engine is running and the hydraulics don't work.

Would something like this be much help?

Ah yes I was warned by someone about this already! Good thought for sure.

I was planning to install a pyro for sure. Did not know it was possible to dial up the trans pressures. This tractor will mainly run a small square baler and rake and maybe a 12 ft discbine so not going to be worked crazy hard imo. I also thought about sending the pump out to be dialed back to more like 130 HP instead of the 165 that this engine is rated at being a hydrostatic machine.

I wouldn't spend one dime removing and sending the injection pump out to be re-rated. Hook it to a PTO dynomometer and set it where you think it needs to be for your use. And by the way, 165 HP is flywheel HP which will be about 145 to 150 HP on the PTO as it is right now.
