4230 cluster gauge assembly

no oil pressure, gas, and water temp gauges. changed gauges, sending units. still no work. i spent over $ 200 for this. now i need instrument box. over engineered crap. less reliable, hard to fix and diagnose and expensive. i am by passing this with regular gauges for $ 52. my quad range was fixed for the second time last year. my friends 4050 had 2 nd motor job because of plugged weep hole with coolant going back into block. john deere is over engineered crap !

Is that a question or are you just b*tching?

You can cobble up your stuff all you want, but don't blame the equipment, idiots can screw up any color of tractor

probably all dash needed was a good electrician that could determine if dash was grounded correctly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please don't notify my JD 4255 with over 10,000 hrs that it needs it's 2nd overhaul because it still hasn't had it's 1st OVERHAUL YET.

Besides needing an electrician on the 4230 the 4050 needs a qualified engine re-builder technician or better repair parts.

FYI 4050's don't have weep holes in blocks either!!!!!!!!!!!!

He might be talkin about the water pump on a 466 engine. Sometimes they can leak and put antifreeze in the motor which could take out the bearings.

You're correct as I forgot about the water pump drain hole on the 55 series. IMHO not one of JD's better engineering ideas.

My 4255's water pump leaked at about 4000 hrs but I caught it when I checked the engine oil before start-up.

Yeah, I had one go out at 5800 hrs last year. Water pump seal started dripping in the middle of a 100 ac. bushhogging job last year. I drained out the antifreeze and refilled with water to limp through the job. On the last day of the job I was leaking a good gal. a hour. Got lucky and the oil never thinned out or got higher up the dipstick. :o
