4230 powershift

Well now my 4230 powershift stoped moving along with the pto, all the other hydraulic functions are working. Did a quick check and clutch pressure check and that fine. So I am guessing it's time for a split? (11000 hrs). Any ideas where to start? Thanks

On 2nd thought you're probably correct. Not that it would have any affect concerning operation of pto but is diff/trans disconnect engaged?
It was engaged. Had i heck of a time getting pin pulled to release it so I could tow it home

My guess is something failed in the front clutch pack. You're pump is still turning but no power is getting past the front clutch pack. If you're good with trans system pressure and lube pressure I'd say go after the front clutch pack. Make sure you test the lube pressure while shifting through all clutch elements so you know if there's any excessive leakage throughout the rest of the system before taking anything apart.

hello,, just had one of these,, try running the tractor in tow,, with the clutch pedal up shift thru the gears one at a time, see if you feel and hear clutch packs inside changing,, the engine will also respond, IF the trans. input shaft is spinning the front clutch packs,, C1, C2,, PTO..) If you shift thru the speeds and no noticeable engine pull or clutch packs changing, most likely the input shaft has sheared behind the trans. pump, so the trans. clutch packs are NOT spinning, I have seen this happen a few times in my 57 years of working on Deeres. you will need to split at the engine and pull out the whole clutch pack assy. you will be able to turn the input shaft by hand, BUT the clutch pack assy. does NOT turn.

Thanks for the info. I know with the tractor not in tow I can not feel or hear any change. I can hear the oil flow thru pto valve when engaged.

hello,, Deere friends,, just had a 4240 power shift, 8 speed,, quit moving, no PTO, hydraulics quit shortly, after the cooler and reservoir emptied,, NO trans. pressure,, split at clutch housing,, the clutch damper springs had COMPLETELY broken up into shrapnel,, so the trans shaft was NOT rotating,, the shrapnel inside got caught between flywheel and starter snout,, the NIPPO starter snout was broken off..

Sounds like when you do something you do it right! Your tractor or are you working on it for someone else? I wonder if it had any noticeable slack or jerk when you threw the throttle back to slow down in 8th?
