424 Fuel Filter

Good morning!! I am debating whether to return this fuel filter back to stock or just go as is and replace the current filter. It is missing some metal lines that have been replaced by rubber. There is also no brackets for the original setup. What's your opinion?

Is that the only filter on it? Seeing the entire filtration system and comparing what is there to original equipment will lead to better answers. If it is the only filter it is needed. If it is in addition to all the OEM filters, likely it will be fine without that filter.

It is the only filter with the original being mounted to the right of the oil filter in this photo. Part of me wants to try to find the brackets and return it to stock form. However the other side of me just wants to replace that one and get this tractor living again.

You could send a Direct Message to Dieseltech and ask for his suggestions.

Since you say it is the only filter, I would build some good mounting brackets for the filter base and get it plumbed up with better lines.

There are many diesel engines out there running on one of those filters just fine. Be aware there are a couple of those filters and they look alike but the porting is different, so be sure you get the one that matches your filter base.

Edit to add: rustred is right in that the filter base should be mounted vertically so any crud and water settle to the bottom (drain) end of the filter. The air bleed port should be at the top end.

Get or make bracket so that filter can sit upright with proper fittings and fuel hose not bouncing around like a drunken sailor. Those are good water separators also, good units and that’s all that u need.
