4240 Fuel Issues

This week while mowing/bailing hay my 4240 developed a thick blue smoke exhaust. Tractor idles fine and does great until you go past 1500RPMS and does the common 4240 "flutter" which seems to be a problem related to the Injection pump and sounds like its missing. The blue smoke does get worse at higher RPMS but is still there at idle. Part of me wants to say that the problem is no doubt the injection pump but the blue smoke at idle makes me feel like it's an injector problem. I've been running some fuel conditioner and injector cleaner but not having any luck solving issue. My next step is pulling injectors and sending them off to be tested. Looking for any tips or if anyone on this forum has had a similar issue.

Sounds like injection pump to me, I’ll bet the housing needs machined for an oversized advance piston. Common problem on higher hour Stanadyne DM model pumps when the piston gets loose in the housing.
