4240 or 4430

Which would you prefer, a late model 76 or 77 4430, or the slightly newer naturally aspirated 4240. Figure SGB and quad range for both. Work would include primary tillage with a mold board plow and disk harrow as well as running a baler in the summer time.
Maybe they are similar enough that it doesnt matter much.

Both tractors were good tractors. The 4240 having a 466 over the 4430's 404 was a good thing but, lacked the turbo charger making it a dog and
not real efficient for its power. Many folks will add a charger to the 4240 to get the efficiency and power out of them. DW

Welcome to YT
I'd choose the 4240 because it has 466 engine & hydra-cushioned seat over the 4430 with 404 engine & spring/shock absorber suspension seat

Personally I like the 4240. Turbo charged 404's don't have a lot of guts at lower rpm's. They need to be wound up a little so they don't fall flat on their face. Of course engine and injection pump condition determine this a lot. The 42 will hold itself very well at low rpm's.

THE 4240 W/466 would be better choice.4440 better for not a lot more.A factory 4440 turbo set up would be close to $1500+ installed.Right now 4440s have increased in value compared to 5 years ago.Bought many nice ones under $20K now nice ones start at $25K.4240s are not as fuel efficient as the 4440.The 55 series are bring more accordingly than the 7and 8000 series.

Personally, I think that a 7710 mfwd powerquad is much more reliable and at 25k, I would look for a 7700 2wd quad before I get a 4440.

Family members had at a time a fleet of 4 Deere, 7710 21k, 7810 18K, 8200 16k, 8300 14k... The 7''' were ten years old and averaging 2500hours per year of manure hand honey spreading plus tillage and baling.

Got them all new and had zero issues, except complaining bout mudguards mounts falling at 10k on both 8000...
