4240 Shifting Issue

Hello everyone. I have inherited a 4240 with the Syncro-Range 8 speed. (Apparently, this is a pretty uncommon setup, as most information I can find is on the powershift and quad-range transmissions.) It shifts into all the forward and reverse gears smoothly. However, when I try to use gears 3, 5, and 7, it will grind and jump out of gear as I engage the clutch. Could this be a linkage/ clutch adjustment issue? Or, am I looking a full split and replacing the synchronizers, clutch, etc.?

check linkage adjustments or could be the top top shaft needing rebuilt. TimS did a shaft for me a few years back, he should be along to answer.

Is this 4240 open station or cab model? Check for slack in linkage or shifter drum in console. If cab model cab mounting doughnuts may need replacing

It is a cab model. Or ROPS (cab without the glass). Whatever they call it, the shifter is on the console by your right arm. I m guessing the doughnuts being worn down would throw the linkage out of alignment?

Thank you all for the help, it gives me a decent idea of where to start looking.
