I have a chance to buy a real nice restored 430 High Crop. It was done right but about 10 years ago. Very nice looking tractor with new rubber. I don't know what to offer the man for it. Any thoughts?

JD never made a 430 Hi Crop. They made some 430V tractors if memory serves. The V= vegetable which was a lifted tractor. The tractor serial number tag should tell you which type 430 it is. 430 U,V,W,T,S. Only a 430 V would be $$$$ wise comparable to a "Hi Crop".

Dodgeit, your mistaken on the 430 HC's. There were 212 total made. 180 of those were gas, 27 were All-Fuel and 5 were LP. They made 63 V models and all of those were gas models. There was a 6th Lp model that showed up at an auction in Texas a few years ago. It wasn't known if the dealer converted it or if it was missed in the total count but it had all factory LP components on it. It sold for over $50,000 back probable 5 or 6 years ago. I haven't seen any sell lately but would be interested in knowing also as I have one with PS in my collection.

What style 430 was the HC made with? I always understood that the "V" was the hi crop.

According to the 420 and 430 tractors parts catalog (PC505), the "430 Special" is 430V and the "430 Hi-Crop" is 430H. There are a number of different parts between them as you look through the documentation. This, by itself, doesn't demonstrate that JD actually built any of either, of course.

These are snips from the manual:

I don't know if these parts are optional or standard, but the draw bar assembly seems to be another potential way to differentiate between a high crop and a special...

This is a picture from 2003 of the 430 HC I own. Not sure about the spinout wheels on it. I've never seen another one with them and the parts book doesn't show they came with them. There are a number of parts that are specific to the HC and some fit other models also but not all of them.
