I presently have a 430 Case diesel year 1968 or 69. I’m losing oil out of the hydraulic reservoir into the rear end. So far, I’ve changed the double seal underneath the dual range cover. And now I’m attempting to change the seal and the bearing housing in the rear end that the PTO goes through. my question is how is this held in and how do you remove it a sidenote when the draft arms have a bail on it they stay up any help would be appreciated.

I haven't done the late 430 with the roller bearing but following is how the housing and bushing are installed in the earlier 430 and many of the pre-1960 tractors. I think this is the same setup with roller bearing, different shape seal housing and seal.

On the earlier 430 the seal housing #8 is pressed on the O.D. of the transmission main drive shaft #1 and the bearing #9 (earlier 430 a bushing) is pressed into the I.D. of the main transmission shaft #1.

On the later 430 the change was a different seal #10 and roller bearing #9 replacing the bushing. The seal housing #8 looks the same as the older 430 but the part nr has changed indicating a change in some way.

Check the pic, if that is the back of the transmission main drive shaft then housing and seal are pressed as I described above.

I have never pulled a seal housing or replaced a bearing. I have pressed seal housings back on that came adrift. Cleaning up the mating surfaces of the O.D. of the main shaft is difficult due restricted space, it may even have been previously been pressed on with Loctite or similar. You should install a new housing if avail. You have to be very careful not to damage the main shaft. It's really not something to get into if you don't have to do it.

The 1st pic is early 430 with double lipped seal and bushing. Other pics are all late 430.

My guess is that is all your gonna get from a 60 year old pump. It was about 1500psi when new. Be sure to use "Transmission-Hydraulic" Oil in the Torque Tube. Be sure the oil you are using has the "Tranny" prefix. I would not use straight hydraulic fluid on a bicycle chain. I don't care if it came in a gold pail. Add 2 qts of 85W140 to it and it will increase pump performance.

Ok thank you for your reply .i guess i will finish putting it together and try it.

It's been close to 50 years, but I remember dealing with the same issue on a 530. In the end the problem was a plug on the forward end of the bottom shaft. The plug looked like what is typically called a frost plug in an engine block. We just tapped it back into position and put the tractor back together and it never bothered again.

I was aware that that could happen so I made sure I checked that while I was there. Thank you for the reply.
