Came with three options in the later 430. Triple range had live with the hand clutch. Dual range could have the indipendant. Of course the base didn't have live or independant. The early 430 came with hand clutch or just the standard non live pto.

If you have a short lever with a grab ring on the end on it, it likely pulls straight up to slide a collar over a gear and is not independent. You have to clutch the tractor to put this pto into gear so it doesn't grind.
If you have a tall straight lever, it leans away from the tractor to engage it's own clutch pack and is independent from the rest of the tractor for rotation. Not an option on early 430s, but was an option on later ones.
By the way, the later 430s didn't offer the hand clutch anymore, so if you have one with a standard pto instead of independent, you will have a tractor more worthless than an 8N Ford when it comes to pto work.
