4320 John Deere the pto clutch was replaced by previous owners and it was parked not to long after and it stuck managed to get it freed up but pto would spin slowly but couldn’t be stopped by hand or cutter I had it hooked to but could pull handle back slightly and it’ll stop and hold. So I pulled side cover off and the adjustment linkage for the valve someone had adjusted it so I adjusted it back to where it was originally and it holds fine now but someone told me the brake was shot and adjusting it would cause more issues should I adjust it back or leave it like it is?

Sounds as if pto was operating correctly before you made adjustments according to pto operating instructions shown in a 4320 Rowcrop tractor operators manual. If you need an operators manual one can be downloaded for free @ https://techpubs.deere.com/en-US/Search/Equipment

Get the book and adjust it by the book. If it won't stop spinning then, you should take it apart and fix it properly. A PTO that won't stop turning is a safety issue. No matter how careful you think you are or how careful you try to be, you can't control other people, and you're not perfect. All it takes is one slip-up to end up wound up in the PTO shaft, or missing a few toes from the cutter.

Since you adjusted it, engage pto and at half or more throttle, take the cover off of the bottom of the clutch housing and look at the pto linkage, and make sure that it ISN"T moving forward and back, quivering you could say. If it is the adjustment is off and it will chew up the orings on the engagement pistons and you will have an oily mess in the clutch housing along with a split again to fix. Hopefully you have the side cover off yet and as you engage the lever watch the shiny shaft that goes into the valve and as it bottoms out as you overcenter the lever, the shiny shaft should barely show.

The pto works fine now it was previous owners who adjusted it and had it where it was partially engaged all the time I adjusted it till the pto holds fine which was how it was before
