435 axle removal

I"m trying to remove the final drive gear in the Axle housing on
a JD 435. I was able to cut off the bearing race but the gear is
stuck on the splines. There are two threaded holes in the gear
but I don"t really want to drill through the housing to get to
them. But that would be the only way to get a puller on it. I"ve
tried heating up the gear but no luck. Any suggestions?
Please help. Thanks

The way Ive done it is unconventional, but it works. First, make sure youve taken off the four bolts that hold the outer seal/bearing cup on (where the axle emerges from the final housing on the wheel side). Nothing is moving if you dont get those out. . . think they have a 5/8 inch head. To pop the gear off I take a heavy chain and wrap it around the final housing, then put a portopower between the chain and axle. You may need a smaller diameter pin to push only on the axle. . . would probably also help to have someone else run the portopower while you hold the pieces in place until its tight (Ive done it by myself but usualy takes a couple trys). Its probably not the safest practice. . . Ive broken a couple chains where the hook pins on at the end. I usually have the pieces around the corner while I pump the portopower on the other side. Some gears pop right off and some have taken some heat before adding pressure to get them off. Have not broken a final drive housing, gear, or axle and done it this way over a dozen times.

Thanks for the info. I decided today to leave the gear on the axle and clean it up and install new bearings. I wanted to Use the original axle but the one that came with this housing is good enough.
