4430 Alternator

Hate to ask so many questions but here goes. Alternator not charging. Have voltage when I turn the key on 1. Have voltage constantly on 2 because its jumpered from the battery. Bad alternator? I looked a salvage tractor I had and its wired different. Im going to try and show 1st pic of good tractor alternator and 2nd of salvage.

1 Looks the way I wire them. It dosent costmuch to get one converted to one wire at an alternator shop while getting checked anyway.

Not sure we have any shops left around. I know of a couple that have closed. Not sure if the chain store parts houses can do it either.

Get a one wire 10 SI Delco,,tape the smaller wires back out of the way,,you can tell if its charging when the rear bearing area is magnetized..

Should have constant voltage at #2 because it is at battery source

#1 should have 0 volts with switch off and voltage with switch on. Voltage on #1 and no charge indicates a bad alternator. Take it to an auto parts and have it checked. I would stay with a 3 wire since it is already wired that way.

So now Im really confused. Have replaced alternators before but just got to digging in too deep I guess. Normally have carried to parts store and replaced or to alternator shop. I was thinking of putting a higher amp alternator on it. Then I read where u can burn your whole operation down! I see they do have higher amp Deleo replacements. A couple of people have told me to change to nippendenso 90 amp alternators. I cant find any number on old Delco to see I what amp rating it was. Ive looked at one wire alternator info online and some still show wires running from pins 1 or 2. What gives? Does the one wire to battery do everything and allow your battery gauge to show?

I fail to see how a higher amp alternator if operating as designed will burn up any electrical component on a 4430. Depending on tractor serial # JD offered 55 amp - 90 amp alt for tractors with air conditioning.
