4430 drawbar

Hello to all. New to the board and I have a question. I have a 4430 with factory drawbar. We use this tractor for round baling with a JD567 baler. My question is-does anyone know if I can get a straight drawbar for this tractor. The factory drawbar is too low turned down (drags windrow) and too high when turned up (afraid the pto will hit on a terrace, etc.). Straight would be just right I think. Any suggestions? Thanks, cds

I'm not a haymaker anymore, but several neighbors pull BRB's with similar tractors and have rigged strips of rubberized belting on the underside of the drawbar to keep the hay from catching and dragging.

Ever tried that?

Hay dragging up isn't as much of the problem as is the height of the hitch point. Baler performs better on a higher drawbar, but the 4430 drawbar turned up is too high. When we pull the baler with our JD 7200 which has a straight drawbar, the baler pickup has a bigger range of "float" giving a more consistent pickup on uneven terrain. Thanks for the reply!

I don't know where it came from but I know straight drawbars do exist as I have one on my 4020. They use the same drawbar as the 4430s as far as I know. It looks like a factory item but I never researched it. I think its pretty handy being a few inches higher than dads bent down drawbar 4020.

Baled umpteen thousand bales with a 4430, but it was a Vermeer, rather than a JD. Drawbar was turned down; (threaded) hitch-pin put in from the bottom w/spacers to pull all slack to top-side w/hair pin for added safety. If you've gotta have a straight drawbar and can't find one that'll fit, I see no reason you couldn't cut your's off and weld an appropriate straight piece on; we broke 2 of the things over the years on 4020s (same drawbar as 4430) pulling grain buggies. Re-welded them and used them just like the unbroken ones without regard as to which one was which; I trust them just as much as a brand new one. This would be assuming you have an appropriate 'donor' drawbar and are an accomplished welder.

I bet the drawbar out of a very late 720 or 730 would work. It may take drilling the hole larger in the front pin, but the drawbar should be physically sturdy enough and it is straight.

A 1066 draw bar should work. I used the rear half of the two peice IH drawbar to make a pulling hitch had the same pin size and slide right in.
Chucky

My dad bought a straight drawbar for our 4430. I think he got it from John Deere. I won't swear to it though, I was a kid at the time. We don't use it much because it puts the pto shaft at to much of an angle. You want the staft to be as straight as possible.

I was just digging through jdparts and this part number maybe the one I have R80842. Its listed as the heavy duty not drilled for the "strap" The picture shows curved but the description makes me think its not. Mine is straight and not drilled for the clevis kit (strap). I know our 4620 had a straight drawbar with clevis but they only show the exact same picture/diagram with a curved drawbar. They list it as 275$, I would have expected more. They do list the same drawbars part numbers for the 4430 as the 4020 btw.
