4430 heater bypass

I don't use my JD 4430 in the winter so I am wanting to shut off or bypass the heater hoses. I've looked at other websites and some people say just use a regular shutoff on one hose. Some people recommend a shutoff on both hoses. Others say don't use shutoffs at all because it can cause overheating. They recommend an H valve of some sort to keep the antifreeze in a loop. I can't seem to find just a simple H shaped shutoff. What do you guys think. I want to help out the ac as much as possible on these hot days.

If the heater temperature control valve is in good condition it should be closing off the flow of heated coolant through the core in the cab top completely.

If it doesn't seem to be doing that you can put a "ball" or other valve in the line that comes from the cylinder head, NO "H" valve needed for this particular machine.

(The heated coolant leaves the cylinder head, flows through the heater core, and returns to the waterpump.)

My JD 4255 heater hose has had a manual cut off since '95 with no engine heating problems. Only time heater would help cool engine temp is when heater is providing heat in cab which would be a No-No for tractor operator on most summer days.

AS everyone below has correctly stated. The heater flow is shut off when cab heater valve is shut so there is no concern capping heater circuits off or adding valves. The heater core will carry heat into cab if control valve leaks or if heater lines are connected backwards?? Heat can creep up return line in time on a normal tractor also but it would take quite awhile to do this. Blocking off heater flow will have no affect on tractors cooling capacity. DW

If coolant control valve is bypassing coolant internally the manual shut-off is very cost effective in improving the cooling capacity of AC on a SGB on a warm day.

Well I put one on today. Hopefully it makes a difference. I have paid the dealership quite a lot of money to get it running good to no avail. Maybe a cheap fix is what it needed all along. Thanks for the help. I won't know until I can get out and cut some hay.

I use a threaded shut off valve with a 5/8 barb on it,,3/8 pipe thread on the other end,,put it where the heater supply comes off the top of the water pump. I put them on every cab tractor that i re[air the Air Condition on. The original cab valve lets hot water slip by and overwhelms the AC.
