4430 JD hydraulic problems

My 4430 hydraulics quit working. The JD mech came and looked at it and said it would have to go to shop. It has been in the shop for two weeks and they are still working on it. They changed out numerous parts--one cost $2000. They finally decided it was the hyd pump. I ordered a reman from Abilene Machine for $1100. JD wanted $2700 for a new one. I hope to get it out this week. I am sure the cost will be over my head. Roy

You are very fortunate that the pump is so little money. I had to replace one three years ago that was $5300 just for the pump.

Once they figure out the actual problem and fix it, I would tell them to put back all of the original parts that they replaced along the way so you don't have to pay for parts it didn't need. You shouldn't have to pay for their lack of proper troubleshooting skills.

Hi I would get a detailed report of what they did and why they changed stuff, just to be sure they didn"t just throw stuff at it, and see your old parts.

Have had a few different tractors here to fix. Biggest problem with some is you have to run tests in sequence. then find 1 problem fix that before next test and so on.
If that tractors had filings in the system, like the 1135 MF I did everything in the test sequence was wrong. and when I got through that the main pump was shot. The customer new what the cost might be and said do it.
Hope they don"t have 40 plus hours and parts in it. I have heard horror stories of tractors going in for water pump, and while it was there the shop decided it needed a new front axle, Cost one guy $30.000 he didn"t authorize. He now has blue tractors. he is not the only guy this happened to. Dealers bankrupt a guy I know real good to with $35.000 bill on a tractor that made 40.000 in his sale. Good luck
Regards Robert

I had a warranty repair issue gauge on my JD garden tractor. The fuel gauge stopped working at 6 months and less than 30 hours. I called dealer and offered to bring it to them to avoid a hauling charge, as I knew that they charged one, and the service manager said "It"s just the instrument cluster that needs to be replaced. We can come to your property and fix it there. No need to bring it in." So I left my garage unlocked and went to work that day and when I came hoe the tractor was gone. I called the dealership the next day and they said that they had come and replaced the instrument cluster at my property, but that didn"t fix it so they decided it needed new sender and they had to take it back to their shop to do that. i didn"t think much of it and two days later when I came home form work it was in my driveway and was working properly. A week later I received a bill in the mail for $160.00 hauling charge. I called the service manager on the phone and even though he admitted remembering that I had offered to bring it in originally on my own trailer to avoid the hauling charge, I had to threaten a law suit before he would drop the hauling charge.
