tans light started to flicker today after running
about 6 hrs cutting hay serviced filter in the past
month didn't notice any slipping or driving
differently need suggestions to diag and repair or
any common problems that cause the light to flicker?

4640 owner may also have a tractor with low transmission pressure. How smart is it to keep using the tractor?
Why take a few minutes with a pressure gauge and find out? An ounce of prevention or a pound of cure.

i'll have find the service manual for it later today to see how to check pressure is there a service port on the trans to check pressure and what kind of gauge is needed ?

Also, I have seen the wire to the sender get chafed/damaged and intermittently short to chassis ground, making the light flicker.

its the port that has clutch by it right i pulled the plug it looked like a 1/4 thread i got a 1/4 hydro hose to make a gauge but it wouldn't tread in is it different than 1/4 pipe thead? the light was flashing on start up this am checked the fluid looked like it had some moisture so i drained and refilled fluid ran for about 1 1/2 hrs with no light until i sifted to c range to drive back home also there is a sensor or switch near the service port that has a wire broken is that the sensor for trans pressure ?

IIRC, test port is 1/2" - 20 TPI, "O" ring. (A straight hydraulic fitting thread (NOT tapered), that uses an "O" ring to seal.

Transmission type... Synchro/quad, or powershift?

Does it have PFWD (Power Front Wheel Drive)?

IF synchro/quad WITHOUT PFWD the only electrical sensor for pressure will be in the pressure regulator valve housing above and behind the hyd. oil filter.

One side of warning lamp gets battery voltage, other side of lamp is connected to sensor. Other wire from sensor is grounded. If insulation is broken, or wire is broken and wire between warning lamp and pressure switch gets "grounded", light will come on.

If PS and/or PFWD, there's more sensors/pressure switches, and a little more wiring in that area.

it is a quad trans and is not 4wd that sensor behind the filter is the one i have that has the broken off wire it only has the one wire that goes to ground where was a wire hanging by it but it didn't look like it went to the switch it had an eyelet end on it i grounded it and the light didn't come on either i'll have to look more for the wire thanks for all your help

IIRC, wire from cab should follow and be wire-tied to ta steel hydraulic line that goes down to the valve housing by the filter.
