444 IH

Why don't I ever see any questions about IH 444. They either must be a very good tractor or they aren't many around?

Both.
they last a long time and not too many problems other than the chronic brake problem.

As my handle indicates I have a 2444 which is an industrial 444.

I have a tractor that the man told me when I bought it that it was a 2444 but I"m not sure and the serial number doesn"t match anything that I can find. the only number that I can find is on a metal tag that is 02086 thanks for any help,

The 444 is a stout little tractor! Fairly simple for all they offer.
My 1969 Gas 444 works hard and it had a very hard life before I got a hold of it. I did a bunch of repairs but have not opened the motor or trans.
I really like it except for the shifters right were you need to step to get on or off.

Yup, kinda rare, though there were TWO of them at the auction where I bought my 340. One was a diesel. Also two 424's IIRC.

Hi, great tractor,but mine has been very cold to start,even in the cool summer mornings I need to plug in the heater for it to start.Starts bang on when warm but will kill the battery turning over cold?Anyone have the same problem/fix?

You're right of course Delta but I can't stand to leave them out side and I am out of shed/barn room. I have only used the 444 for sickle bar mowing and planting sweet corn, some bush hogging, and a little raking. I really like to drive it but would rather have a little newer diesel I think. I will miss it ( and I may keep it and keep the two row planter on it ). Can't make up my mind in this cold weather.

Once the glow plugs are gone the diesels are almost impossible to start at 70 degrees. Other than that they are super little tractors, I ran a 384 for a couple of years and it was a powerhouse for its size.

Mine is a gas model and I just had the engine overhauled and it was 12 degrees this morning and I had no trouble starting it. Yes I agree with you they are a little hard getting on and off, I'm 77 + so it is a lot easer if you are a you man. I run a home made wood splitter the last two days with it.

Mine is a Gas engine also, on a cold day it needs a little choke but always fires up. I am 50+ and getting my feet around the speed shifter or the range lever when it is in high range is always a problem for me.

There were a LOT of 444 sold around here back in the day, but there are two 444's. One was a US build in the 60's, the other a UK build in the 70's. The UK one was sold in the US as the 364, but 444 in Canada.
