4440 loader problem

My father in law has a 4440 with a loader. The loader hoses are plugged in to the tractor's remote couplers. The tractor has three remote valves. One is used for lifting the loader arms. One for the bucket tilt. One for implements (disk, mower, etc.) The tractor is a power shift.
He was moving dirt for me today and I noticed he had to jostle the two remote valve control levers to get the bucket to tilt or loader to lift or lower. Once he got the bucket positioned, it lifted heavy loads without any problem. I don't understand how moving the lever for the arm lift would affect the valve working for the tilt and visa versa.

Sounds as if one or more of the SCV is returning to the neutral position correctly. It's possible there are some worn rollers or rockers inside the valve bodies that need replaced.

Thank you. If I switched the hoses for the bucket tilt to the third valve's couplers, and it improved things, would that help determine the problem?

This is why the loader should be controlled from it's own joystick control instead of from the SCV's.
Supply the joystick from a power beyond plate instead of an SCV.

I agree. However, father in law is 89 years old and I don't think I can talk him to making any changes to his "favorite" tractor ;-)

I'm with you there...If you want to go through your SCV'a check with me, I can re-build them and bench test them here..

If controlling FEL with scv's was so terrible then why did the engineers in Welland,Ontario,Canada have an option to control loader from scv's???? Schematic is for a 148/158 loader.

Because it was cheaper?? Sure made for an unhandy set up if the tractor was used for more
than loader work.

I agree it was cheaper to buy loader that was scv operated because I sold them when they were NEW but that's different than stating it's an incorrect method of operating a FEL

because they had to have an option for the cheapskate market.
If SCV operated loaders are so wonderful . Why were they gradually replaced with joystick or two lever controls ? How common are SCV operated loaders now?

Did you read David G's reply?? As I've stated in the past FEL controlled by scv's isn't the best but it sure beats a hand shovel & pitchfork.

I'm with Tx jim on this. I've bought 3 JD loaders new over the years, (146,522 and 620) and
was asked every time if I was going to use the tractor's valves to operate the loader.
Every installation manual also showed both ways to connect the loader. Either way would
work, but the joytick control is much easier to use two functions at once, and just makes
it handier to use the tractor for other jobs. My Dad had a 4600 Ford with the loader
plumbed into the tractor's valve; I used to pick stones while operating the haybine, and it
was a real PITA to (dis)connect the hoses in order to dump the bucket.
