4440 starter

Bought new double wall frame rails for 3020 recently. JD wanted $875 each. A+I products sold made in USA rails through Abilene or any other dealer for $365 each. Tractor rollbar costs $725 and the sheet steel canopy to go with it costs $1,390. They're just in business to make money nowadays.

The interesting thing is that DEERE owns a controlling interest in A&I.

I recently ordered a 4230 turbo outlet spool though a DEERE dealer and it came in an A&I box with a DEERE part # label stuck on it. It had grooves with cast iron sealing rings making it BETTER than the original.

Look at DB Electrical on the internet. Ive had very good luck with there starters and fast service. I beleive they have one for a 4440 for $249.

More and more companies have folded to the pressure of turning from a real American company to nothing more than a greedy accounting machine.
At that point, their life span is more like a firecracker, lots of sparks, hype, marketing lies, and noise, then a big pop, and they go under or get bought out and blame everything and everyone but their own greedy selves.
They wanted no part of antique tractors at all, which caused a number of smaller companies to get in the business of making parts. Then when they saw the profit in it, they bought in to one of those companies.
The very day that they bought it, the prices jumped up, what does that tell you?
No matter what they try to tell you, the ONLY thing that is close to their heart and soul is $$$$$$$$$. People and relationsips only matter long enough to strike a deal, they really do not care anymore.

I just bought a gear drive starter for a 4440 from JD for $413 but it was a remanufactured one We have very good luck with them

The difference between $249.95 (plus shipping) and what you paid will add up in a hurry, that is unless someone just has more money than common sense, and then I guess it does not matter.

Forget using the original starter and replace it with a gear reduction starter off a 8000 series. Cost me arround $3-400 and needed to change the main battery cable to the starter but the differance it made to my 4430 engine in starting was almost unbeivable.
Chucky

All I had to do is drill the hole in the battery cable out to 1/2 in and added 6 in. of whire to the 2 small wires . I used electrical wire nuts to add to the wires. I used the existing wire ends by cutting the wires about 6 in. from the end and adding in the middle. While the wire nuts are not factory looking they are hid behind the side shield .and they are about as good a connection as you can get without sodering. The starter does bolt right on and is easier to get the back bolt lots more room .

Then go find a friendly broke and out of business company to deal with.
